“Filmmaking has a lot to do with limitations, essentializing and figuring out what you really want to do.” Daniel Kwan is an American film director, screenwriter and producer known primarily as one half of the directing duo known as Daniels (the other is Daniel Scheinert). They met studying film at Emerson College in Boston, and began directing music videos. In 2016 they expanded into writing and directing feature films and made Swiss Army Man, a darkly humorous comedy-drama starring Daniel Radcliffe that won Best Directing at the Sundance Film Festival. Daniels' most notable work is the film Everything Everywhere all at Once (2022), which received wide acclaim for its innovative and complex approach, blending elements of fantasy, absurdist humor and emotional storytelling. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won seven of them, including Best Director and Best Picture. The deep emotionality in his films made him a respected director, despite his short career.
