Of Ghanaian heritage, Yonah Odoom was born and brought up in North London where she still resides. A versatile actress with a penchant for challenging and thought provoking roles, Yonah is equally comfortable on screen and stage. Yonah graduated from the University of Luton in 2004 with a BA Hons' Degree in Media Performance, she began to pursue a career in marketing, (as her heritage dictated that "acting is not a proper job"), however, after seeing an ad in a local paper for the play "Blood Wedding" she decided to audition, and landed the part of Moon. Once she was in the rehearsal room she began to realise that the desire to act was never going to go away; it was then that Yonah decided she would do everything she could to make her childhood dream of acting full time a reality. The renewed journey began with the realisation that she needed to perfect her craft. With that in mind Yonah attended classes for over a year with Identity Drama School. Yonah studied with the likes of Che Walker, which led to her taking regular classes at the Central School of Speech and Drama before joining the Actors Centre London. Whilst at the Actors Centre she developed an interest for the Meisner technique and went on to complete a 12 month training course in Meisner with The Impulse Company, where she regularly attends drop ins sessions as part of the ongoing learning. Yonah is also an avid fan of the Chubbuck Technique, which she currently practices, and has recently been studying at the prestigious Ivana Chubbuck Studios in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Yonah played the role of Nana in the indie short film "Faux Depart" which won Best One Shot Movie Of 2012. She was also one of the four lead characters in the BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts) Award nominated TV drama "Breach", where she played the role of 'Bijou', before landing the role of the feisty Mrs Piper in Coronation Street (ITV 2013). With a wealth of experience in both TV and Theatre, Yonah has played a number of challenging roles; from an abused wife in "Breach" to a Nigerian Trafficking victim in "It Felt Empty When The Heart Went At First..." (The Cockpit Theatre, 2011), and the role she felt most rewarding - Rosa Parks in "We Stand on Giants Shoulders" (New Bold Theatre, 2010). Yonah is hardworking, dedicated, keen for challenges and incredibly passionate about her craft and has most recently completed filming the first episodes of a Web Series she has co-written called YOMO: You Only Marry Once. The comedy centers on two young woman living and loving in London - trying to find a husband.
