Giorgio Ginori

Giorgio Ginori Creator and Artistic Director of L'Isola del Cinema. After having worked as a programmer and director for Rai, the Italian National Television Broadcasting company, during the 1980s and 1990s, Giorgio Ginori dedicated himself to the design and creation of cinematographic events in Italy and abroad, and to the production for cinema and TV, in the late 1990s. Particularly, he has created and directed the event L'Isola del Cinema on the Tiber Island in Rome. Born in 1995 - on the same year of the anniversary of cinema - L'Isola del Cinema has arrived at its 19th edition and has confirmed itself to be the Official Gathering of Italian and International Cinema. With its four screens, L'Isola del Cinema houses numerous events dedicated to the interaction between cinema and other arts. It is also considered the Excellency Ceremony of the Summer in Rome that, for the past 18 years, attracts an ever growing and attentive audience. It has also received important recognitions at a national and international level. In 2011, he founded the production company Maiora Film, whose aim is to support the New Italian Cinema through the identification and the development of ideas, scripts and screenplays for both cinema and TV. Giorgio has worked as a programmer and director for Rai during the 1980s and 1990s. The various films and programs he created and directed are shown below. In 1987, he created and directed for Rai "I luoghi dimenticati del cinema" ("The Forgotten Places of Cinema"), a TV show based on the films of the 1950s. After the numerous interviews made to celebrities, the show introduces the short film "Giorgia". In 1987, he wrote and directed the TV movie "Papu", a love story which carries the metaphor of the spiritual condition of gypsies. In November 1989, he wrote and directed "I cortili di Roma" ("The Courtyards of Rome"), a TV show commissioned by Rai. In 1991 and 1992, he supervised the Italian and foreign direction of the TV show "Ciao Italia" and "Italiani nel mondo" (Italians Across the World"), with numerous pieces on locations, people and cultural traditions of Italy. In 1991, Giorgio created a musical short film entitled "Marina", inspired by locations and characters of the 1960s filmography. In 1992, he wrote and directed the short film "The Man I Love", a brief journey in the world of jazz that draws inspiration from the homonym song by I. G. Gershwin. In 1993, he directed a series of clips dedicated to Italian places, such as "Trastevere", "Viaggio in Emilia" ("A Trip to Emilia"), "Viaggio in Romagna" (A Trip To Romagna"). The following year, he wrote and directed the film "Autismo - L'io senza io" ("Autism - I Without Myself"), aiming at raising the awareness on this mysterious illness through the portraits of various autistic children. In 1995, Giorgio created and directed "La donna delfino" ("The Daulphin Woman"), a short film based on Angela Bandini, the world champion of apnea (at a depth of 107 mt.). The same year, he realized the TV show "Professione reporter" (Profession Reporter"), twelve episodes dedicated to the art of Video-journalism. He also created and directed "La guerra dentro" ("The War Inside"), a retrospective about the war in the former Yugoslavia, and a story about the humanitarian cause. From 1995 onward, Giorgio has always been more and more invested in planning cinema and cultural event in Italy and abroad (the most important of all remains L'Isola del Cinema) thanks to a special working team that is structured as a cinematographic and cultural laboratory. Abroad, he has created and planned L'Isola del Cinema in Australia, Bangkok Porta d'Oriente (Bangkok Doorway to the East) and Una Nave di Cinema verso Barcellona (A Movie Ship Towards Barcelona). Moreover, he has organized numerous free film screenings destined to the patients of different Roman hospitals, and an initiative entitled Padri e Figli (Fathers and Sons) housed in the Museo di Roma in Trastevere, in which young filmmakers and great masters of the Italian cinematography met. In 2011, he created the production company Maiora Film, which wants to be a focal point for the development, the realization and the distribution of films, documentaries and short films. In 2012, he produced the docufilm "Match of a Lifetime", directed by Aureliano Amadei and the documentary "Green Generation", directed by Sergio Malatesta.
