Alex Rathgeber is one of Australia's most versatile leading men. He graduated from The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts . A primarily stage actor, he landed the role of Raoul in London's West End production of The Phantom of the Opera (Cameron Mackintosh) at just 24 years old. Then, he returned to Australia to play Robert, which called upon him to be blindfolded and roller-skate and tap-dance in the acclaimed Melbourne Theatre Company production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Rathgeber received the Helpmann Award for his performance as Billy Crocker in Anything Goes (John Frost and Opera Australia) in 2015. He was nominated for the Sydney Theatre Awards for the role of Sid in An Officer and a Gentleman (GFO) and a Green Room Award nomination for Older Patrick in Mame (The Production Company). His successful stage career opened doors for him on television. He has guest-starred on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (ABC), Rush (Network Ten) and Winners and Losers (Seven Network). His wonderful singing voice also landed him his debut album Easy To Love, which celebrates Broadway's favorite composers, featuring duets with Caroline O'Connor, Lucy Maunder and Claire Lyon. He is openly gay. He has been with his partner, architect Tom Bunting, since 2017.
