Michael is an Actor, Producer, Martial Artist, Host & Emcee and overall Malaysian Creative Arts Advocate. He has been active in the Malaysian Theatre and TV scene since 2003. His first foray into the Malaysian mainstream scene was in superhero action thriller 'Tombiruo (2017)', based on a best selling novel by Ramlee Awang Murshid, where he played the villain character, 'WONG'. Prior to that, Michael was in 'Take Me To Dinner (2014)', an indie film by Gavin Yap. Whilst his TV roles include a drama sitcom 'I Eat KL (2013)' by Friedchillies and football sports drama 'Sepuluh (2009)' by Astro. Michael was born Chen Seong Mun, Michael on July 21st, 1982, in Wilayah Persekutuan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was raised in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. He is the son of Ng Siew Chin, a corporate secretary, and PH Chen, a businessman. He has two elder brothers, Felix Chen (eldest) and Nicolas Chen. At secondary school 'Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Samad', Michael was involved in sports, choral speaking, student government and school theatre productions. He attended the Kemayan Advanced Tertiary College (ATC), where he studied Law and graduated with a LLB Bachelors Degree in Law by the University of London. While studying law, he did everything from working in event management companies, taught kickboxing as a fitness regime and attended several acting workshops which resulted in him acting professionally since 2003. Between 2006 to 2008, he started working in TV Production, learning the ropes before getting into a youth NGO and eventually finding his way into marketing and advertising from 2009 on-wards. In 2014, he produced his first Malaysian independent film, 'CUAK'. A film that featured 5 Directors telling 1 story about an interracial marriage between a Malay Muslim man and a Chinese woman. It received positive reviews in the Malaysian film circles. Chen's acting career only started to find footing from his portrayal as 'Guan' in the third re-staging, but first staging in Malaysia, of a successful Singaporean play 'The Swimming Instructor (2009)' in which he played the title character. Since then, he has done musicals, TV, online short films, ads and movies. Being a full time actor is a tough gig in Malaysia, so he makes a living producing branded content online and acts whenever he can. He is married to Anrie Too (since 2014), also a part time performer (actress & singer) in the Malaysian theatre scene.
