Ralph Miller was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky in 1977, the same day and year Elvis Presley passed away. Having an older relative who worked at a movie theater, he saw film after film at a young age and instantly became a fan of the art of filmmaking. He was highly influenced by film greats such as Ray Harryhausen, Sam Raimi, Steven Spielberg, David Cronenberg, John Carpenter, Alfred Hitchcock, Terry Gilliam, Francis Ford Coppola, George Romero, James Cameron, and Wes Craven. Currently, he is influenced by the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Eli Roth, Christopher Nolan, Philip Bloom, The Coen Brothers, and J.J. Abrams. At 16 years of age, the opportunity arose for him to land a job at a major video rental chain. He worked there for almost 10 years, all while being able to study film after film. It wasn't until 2003 that he began working on the set of a full length feature film. Looking to take his love for film one step further, he enrolled at the Virginia Marti College of Art & Design in the summer of 2007. During his tenure at VMCAD, he learned a plethora of skills including lighting, cinematography, production, motion graphics, after effects, editing, storyboarding, sound design, DVD production, photography, web design, 3D design, flash animation, and photoshop. In 2009, Ralph graduated and earned his Associate Degree of Applied Science in Digital Media. While earning his degree, Ralph interned for major companies, including The Cleveland Indians, Red40 Productions, and Bullz-eye.com. Since graduation, Ralph has continued to pursue his passion, working as a freelance cinematographer, assistant camera, photographer, digital imaging technician, and editor for local Cleveland production houses and independent filmmakers, like Hyndsight Productions, Additive, and The Virginia Marti College of Art & Design. He also gained experience by directing and shooting a variety of short films as well as music videos for bands, such as A Day To Remember, Skeletonwitch, The Summer Set, Foose, Smoke Screen, and The Maine. In 2010, Ralph formed a team of Virginia Marti grads and entered the 2010 Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project. The final product, titled Forever Yours, which earned the team 3 awards, Best Acting, Audience Award, and Runner Up for best film. Also the film, was a 2010 Indie Gathering official selection. Later he worked as an Assistant Camera and Production Assistant on The Doodle and Munch Film Company's "The Facebook Faux Pas," which was accepted into the Cleveland International Film Festival. In 2011, Ralph and the rest of TurnStyle Films entered the 2011 Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project and again won 3 awards, this time Best Use of Prop, Best Cinematography, and Runner-Up for Best Film. Ralph is always looking for clients who can use his skills and hopes to continue working in Ohio's film and digital media industry as a cinematographer, photographer, and director. His immediate goal is to create short films, music videos, and photography, that balance a strong visual style with clear and concise visual story-telling. His ultimate goal is to work as a director or cinematographer on feature films.
