Sam Herath

Sam Herath is an Australian Producer, Director and Screenwriter who has produced and directed a diverse range of films, TV movies, web series and shorts along with other online content. Herath was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka into a creative family. Herath's father is an Advertising Executive while Herath's mother is a Designer in fashion. Herath began making films as a teenager and later pursued her passion for the industry by graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Media, specializing in Film Production, later graduating with a Juris Doctor in Law. Herath's passion for the creative industries has seen her work in Advertising and Film and Television. Herath has also practiced as a Criminal Lawyer and Family Lawyer. One of the key themes of Herath's films deals with the migrant experience and explores the stories of people from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds along with the experiences of women. Herath specialises in narrative dramas, thrillers and science fiction. Herath is a passionate advocate for First Nations storytelling and female filmmakers working in professional roles traditionally not occupied by female media crew. Herath works on film projects around the world and resides in Perth, Australia.
