Cameron M. Johnson was born in Birmingham, England on November 19th, 1996. He grew up in Tamworth and moved to Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA at the age of 10. In middle school he got his first camera, and started making YouTube videos under the name rocknrollrocksout. In high school, he changed the name of his YouTube channel to gambasTV. Cameron's first short film was Moving Stateside, a documentary about his move to the States that he co-directed with his mom, Pauline Ann Johnson. This film premiered at the West Branch Children's Film Festival, winning one award. The following year he directed the short Random News Movie, which also featured at West Branch, winning two awards. Since then, he has continued to make short films, including Captain Cringe: the Movie, a slasher comedy about internet culture; Plane Man, a documentary about glamping entrepreneur David McGowan; Teeter, a psychological thriller about an unrequited romance; and Dublin, Spoken., an arts documentary featuring some of Dublin's most inspiring up-and-coming spoken word poets. Cameron has been living in Dublin, Ireland since 2017, where he completed a BA in Film & TV Production at Griffith College in 2020. He continues to write and produce short films, as well as being an avid writer, poet, and amateur music producer (under the name gambasTV). Cameron's works interrogate the struggles of and innovations in connection in the digital era, the chaos of internet culture, and the relationship between individual and group identity. He enjoys politics, philosophy, trivia, videogames and role-playing games, and loves storytelling that is absurdist, mythical, sincere, and full of weird and wonderful characters. He is especially interested in improvisational/lo-fi filmmaking and magical realism.
