Mayra Amaya (she/her/ella) is a bilingual (Spanish and English) Intimacy Coordinator and filmmaker working in NYC, LA, and PHX. Originally trained as an actor at the Herberger Institute of Arizona State University with an emphasis on Chicanx theater and Latinx political performance, she developed movement heavy pieces that physically reflect her struggle of being a border baby of Mexican descent, a pocha. Her body of work includes a dynamic display of Latino material, such as producer/writer for the Mexican/American political drama Sacrificios, and producer of the child fantasy film El CuCuy. Mayra is developing original Latino content in short films, features, and documentaries that bring Latino voices and causes to the forefront, and contributing to consent forward work spaces. With 10+ years of film production experience as a producer, writer, production coordinator, and casting assistant she strives to center the voices of marginalized communities, and to bring her special blend of empathy, compassion, and curandera energy to all that she creates. Her traits and experience, including knowledge of kink and BDSM, make her an excellent creative collaborator as she has a variety of tools to pull from given the moment or the need. Mayra trained as an Intimacy Coordinator through Intimacy Directors and Coordinators, and is a collaborator with Consent Creatives of Arizona.
