Sofía Garza was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. At the age of 15 she started performing in school musical theater plays, and participated both as a singer and a composer on several music festivals. During her time in high school, Sofia traveled to France and Portugal, singing and dancing Mexican folklore music. She also participated in the first season of the show Latin American Idol (2006), which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While studying for her B.A. in Monterrey (ITESM), Sofia worked in several professional musical theater plays for the most prestigious local production company: Teló 77. Her most important roles were on the major shows "Rent" and "Footloose", starring as Mimi and Ariel, respectively. After graduating college, Sofia had her first appearance on a television series in 2010, working on 6 episodes of the show Morir en Martes (2010). A year later, she was offered the part of the lead antagonist in "Cursi", a comedy play written and directed by local playwright Luis Guerrero. In 2012, Sofia lent her voice and lyrics for a song composed by José Antonio 'Potro' Farías for the soundtrack of the Mexican film Me Late Chocolate (2013). Her real breakthrough in the national musical theater scene was in 2012, when Sofia moved to Mexico City after being chosen to alternate in the leading role of the original musical play "Si nos dejan", written and directed by prestigious Mexican playwright José Manuel López Velarde and produced by OCESA. After a two-year run in Mexico and a couple of tours in Colombia in 2013 and 2014, the show closed in August 2014 with more than 600 performances. In 2013 and 2014 Sofia formalized her acting studies in the Mexican performance school CasAzul Argos. Studying and improving her acting and singing have become a regular activity for Sofia. By 2015, Sofia landed a role in the major television series Sense8 (2015), written and directed by Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, and co-directed by James McTeigue. The show was produced by Georgeville Television and distributed worldwide by Netflix. In 2016 and 2017, Sofia broaden her television skills when she worked in two major television shows for Sony Pictures Television Latin America, playing the part of Viola on Paquita la del Barrio (2017), and portraying Noemi on SPT's Atrapada (2018). By 2019 Sofia landed her first television lead in Televisa's Cita a ciegas (2019) playing the role of Lucía Gonzalez, for which she had to gain over 25 pounds and which garnered the attention of a broad range of audiences along Latin America.
