Graduate of Skidmore College, June 1950; majored in economics. Hired as an assistant at Vogue magazine in 1952, and rose to become editor-in-chief in 1971. Dismissed from Vogue by publisher Conde Nast in 1988, she created Mirabella magazine, which was published from June 1989 to April 2000. Autobiography: "In and out of Vogue" (Doubleday, 1995; ISBN 0-385-42613-5).
