Champion long distance runner Arvo Askola was born on December 2, 1909 in Valkeala, Finland. Arvo finished second in the men's 10,000 meter running event at the 1934 European Championships. Askola went on to win a silver medal in that same exact event at the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, Germany. Arvo died at age 65 on November 23, 1975 in Kuusankoski, Finland.
