Born in Hubei Province, Luo Pan grew up in south of China. He finished his Bachelor degree in Department on Cinematography, Beijing Film Academy in 2001, and continue his Master Degree of Film Art in the same school . His Master Degree tutor was Mr. Mu De Yuan, the president of Chinese Society of Cinematography. After graduating from film academy on 2004, Luo Pan served as a teacher for two years in China University of Communication, department of Cinematography. In 2006 he resigned and moved to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, found a job as a still photographer in Tibet Culture Magazine. He traveled all the plateau of Tibet and worked for this magazine for 6 years. Among the years being in Tibet as a photographer, he also got some opportunities to work as DP for films, such as "Bomb", directed by Gao Qunshu, which won the award of Grand Jury in 11th Shanghai international festival. His credits among these years also includes "Wind blast "2009, also directed by Mr Gao, "Einstein , Einstein",directed by Cao Baoping. On 2013 , he moved back to Beijing, and worked with his academy classmate , Mr Wanma Tsidan, a Tibetan director, on a small budget film "the Sacred Arrow" , this work made him awarded Best Cinematography in the 17th Shanghai International Festival. Depends on such honor , the next year, Luo got a invitation from Director Guan Hu, to be DP for film "Mr Six", which as stared by Mr Feng Xiaogang, the most famous director at the time . This credit made him get nomination of Best Cinematography in 10th Asian Film Awards. By great collaboration with Feng Xiaogang, Luo pan, subsequently worked for Feng as DP for his most influential film "I am not Madam Bovary". In this film , Luo Pan used unique circle frame to tell a ironic Chinese story, by which, he won the Best Cinematography Award on 11th Asian Film Award. After working with Feng Xiaogang 's "Youth" in 2017 and "Cellphone 2" on 2018, Luo Pan got a invitation from Mr Zhang Yimou, working as DP for his latest criminal film "Black hole" , which, by Mr Zhang's comment, is his first non-historical film in nearly 20 years. They finished shooting in Chongqing city, in May 2019. Both Feng and Zhang 's latest film has not been on screen due to virus problem Now, Luo Pan is an active member of American Society of Cinematographers and member of Standing committee of Chinese Society of Cinematographers.
