Surfer Erica Rae Hosseini was born on May 24, 1987 in Riverside, California. The middle child in a family of three (she has an older brother named Tyler and a younger sister named Megan), Erica grew up in Lake Tahoe and Newport Beach in California. Her ski instructor mother taught Hosseini how to ski at age two and by age four she was water skiing and mountain biking. Moreover, Erica was a tomboy as a kid who played such sports as soccer, baseball, basketball, volley ball, and lacrosse. Hosseini first began surfing on a regular basis after getting her own surfboard at age eleven. Erica started competing in the NSSA (National Scholastic Surfing Association) at age thirteen. Hosseini finished second at the 2002 Foster's Cup contest in Lower Trestles, California. Erica went on to win five NSSA titles altogether in 2003: The Southwest Open Conference, the Explorer Conference, the Regionals, and the NSSA National Open Women's Title and the Governor's Title. Hosseini graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 2005. Her other notable surfing achievements include finishing first in the 2004 OP Pro, both the 2005 and 2008 Volcam Championships, the 2007 Roxy Pro Jr., and the 2012 Association Pro Surfing Series, placing second in the 2004 National Open Women and the 2011 Volcam Championships, and finishing third in the 2004 Foster Cup and the 2006 Target Pro Jr. In addition, Erica was the championship winner of the 2012 Association Pro Surfing Series.
