The Junkyard Band (also referred to as "JYB") is an American go-go band that originated in the Southeast neighborhood of Anacostia in Washington, D.C. The group's name reflects their playing style, because they used buckets and scraps of "junk" as musical instruments. The group's biggest success came with the release of the song "Sardines" and "The Word" in 1986, both produced by Rick Rubin of Def Jam Records. They also had a cameo appearance in the 1988 film Tougher Than Leather.
