Jerod Wood was born on August 23rd in the small town of Gallapolis, Ohio. However, he would not grow up in this quaint town. In fact, throughout his life, (at the time of this publication) he would move fourteen different times. He spent a good part of his childhood in North Carolina before his family moved to Mexico as Southern Baptist missionaries. He left the US at the age of 8 and didn't permanently return until the age of 18. Throughout his time in Mexico he lived in various places, but most of his time there was spent in small indigenous villages. While he learned to speak Spanish fluently, he could never master the language that this indigenous group spoke, Purépecha. Many of the people that he and his parents worked with were illiterate, and therefore their ministry in the area consisted of telling Bible stories rather than reading Bible passages. This sparked a passion for telling stories to others which he would carry with him into adulthood. He didn't start out with movies, however, first beginning in comic book creation and then moving quickly into wanting to write novels. It wasn't until October of 2011 when he first made a video. A 8 and a half minute short film entitled "The 8 Minute Mystery" fanned the creative flames that he possessed. He continued to make films with his brother, Alex Wood, on a regular basis. He learned everything from YouTube and the internet and used all of his birthday/Christmas money on film gear. He would help shoot videos for his church and with his friends, and slowly improved his skills. However, it wasn't until his first year of college that he really started making videos every week. His grew leaps and bounds, throughout his first year, eventually starting his own company, Golden Hour Visuals, right before the end of his freshman year. He slowly started shooting wedding films, and other commercial projects, all the while still working on short films and comedy shorts. Jerod's film school career won't officially start until fall of 2017.
