Tommie was born in Houston but moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a young child. She grew up in the D/FW area along with two younger sisters, Julie and Janis, and a younger brother, Warren. From an early age, Tommie was involved in music and theater. Although she loved acting and singing, she attended North Texas State University right after high school in Microbiology. After a year, she knew this was not for her. It wouldn't be until 1995 when she would go back to school and get a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. But during all this, she still continued to sing. After graduating college in 1998, she finally was able to turn to her first love, acting, by joining the cast of the 1999 season of Hawkwood Festival in Roanoke, Texas. The next year, she made the jump and joined the cast of Scarborough Renaissance Festival. While there, she rediscovered her second love, singing, and developed a love of costume. In 2002, she and another cast member took over the role of costumers for the festival and served in that capacity for 7 years total. The following year, she joined the acapella singing group, Stönhenj Players, eventually becoming a co-director with one of the founding members Marc Desmond Mormino. She continued to act as a member of the cast until 2015 when the singing group became more involved. Around 2013, she joined the costume group DFW Costumers Guild. It was through the Guild that she learned about background casting for TV shows and movies being filmed in and around the Austin/San Antonio area, making her first on screen appearance in the pilot episode of Death and Compromise as the bar owner.
