Amar Somaroo, born 1 September 1995 in The Hague, The Netherlands, is a Dutch film director of South-Asian descent. He started his career at age 17 as a writer, at which his first fantasy novel 'Tibet, Kronieken der Verlossing' got published. After finishing his degree in film directing and editing (AA) from Grafisch Lyceum, Rotterdam, he established his company 'Youth Novel Motions' and traveled around South-Asia and the Middle East to focus on film productions. He can fluently speak English, Dutch, and partly Hindi and Urdu. He is most known for directing the composite drama film Cyanide, Supercluster 01 (2021), and his short film A Woman in Kurdistan (2017), which targets the controversy around women's freedom in the Middle East.
