Thijs Montanus

Born late 1996 and growing up, Thijs went through his early school years with a broad interest in life and all of its aspects. Soon, his creative talents showed and not long after he started playing around with cameras as a result of his passion for music and recording. At around age 16 Thijs discovered visual storytelling through making a trailer with friends and saw no reason not to pursue filmmaking by himself. As a student Thijs taught himself the basics of filmmaking and learned about all aspects required. Quickly ambitions,cast and crew grew and so did his portfolio. Only a few years later he now has directed a 48Hour Film in Rotterdam, made multiple drama shorts, directed and edited a short thriller film, DP'd a horror short and attracted attention at student and amateur film festivals doing so. His low budget shorts got applauded for its production value on a dime. After creating an online mini documentary series for Discovery Netherlands, Thijs seems confident to have found his place in directing. His work can be viewed as diverse, adventurous but serious, and his personal interest and wonder for topics like nature, travel and politics may show. Expected to graduate in media and entertainment management the coming year, Thijs faces an abundance of options and decisions that will shape his career over the coming decades.
