Long distance runner Alfred Lord "Al" Fitch was born on December 1, 1912 in New York, New York. Fitch was selected to represent the United States in the 1936 Olympics after placing fourth at the Final Trials. Alfred ran the anchor leg in the men's 4x400m relay on the team that won the silver medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Fitch's best mark at the 400m was 47 minutes at the 1936 National College Athletic Association championship event while his best mark for the 440y was 47.40 minutes in the Pacific Coast Conference meet at Berkeley, California in May, 1936 in which he finished second. Alfred died at age 68 on February 17, 1981 in Orange, California.
