John Huang is a Chinese-born film director, screenwriter, producer and cinematographer. His first student film debut "The Clarinetist" (2017) premiered at Harvard College Film Festival and went on to receive several awards and nominations from film festivals across the country including Excellent Student Short Film Award at the San Francisco New Concept Film Festival. Huang was also nominated for Best Director at the NXTUP Film Festival for his work on the film. In 2021, his TV commercial "Shot on iPhone" (2020) won a Silver Award at the American Advertising Awards. Huang was born on 5 March 1997 in Wuhan and grew up there through his teenage years, living and growing up in a sprawling and fast pacing city he embraced and absorbed both Chinese urban culture and Western pop culture. He began his passion for photography and filmmaking quickly at an early age since his parents gave him his first camera. During his high school years his documentary "A Bite of Maple Leaf" (2014) received attention from several film schools both locally and abroad including Vancouver Film School which granted him full scholarship under the condition of his attendance, however Huang declined the offer and moved to San Francisco by himself and attended Academy of Art University where he majored in film and cinematography. Huang is working on his next narrative film titled "Sweet Home" which is set to release in 2022.
