Born and raised in Liverpool, Shaun Cowley is a writer, director and producer known for Yellow (2017), Stash (2018) and The Last Millennial (2019). Cowley graduated from Liverpool Media Academy with a degree in Film & Television Production before attending Manchester School of Art where he finalised his degree in Filmmaking. While studying he wrote and directed a number of semi-autobiographical short films, most notably Yellow (2017) following a protagonist dealing with the anxieties of leaving home to attend university. Cowley went on to produce films such as Stash (2018), We Bleed the Same (2017) and wrote and directed The Last Millennial (2019) and founded his own independent production company Capital H Productions after graduating. Cowley's signature style is evident in his encouragement of a collaborative approach to writing which involves both actors and crew in the creative process which has greatly amplified his distinct style. He's also been known to use very specific musical choices in his screenplays that expand the mood and emotion from page to screen. His love of his home town of Liverpool is always prevalent in his projects and often choses projects that prioritise story and character over plot which have been described as "nothing really happens".
