David Cartwright was born in Oakville Ontario Canada. At a young age he was captivated by cinema from watching R rate movies with his father on his VHS collection. One year his older brother got a mini DV camcorder for his birthday and began to force his siblings to make movies with him. This was the catalyst for David getting lost down the rabbit hole and becoming obsessed with cinema. He would go on to receive his BA in film and television from Sheridan College. Where he directed his first Documentary Walter which won best documentary at Canada Shorts Film Festival. He would later go on to Direct Written in Red which was selected and screened at Toronto Shorts International Film Festival.
