Sumi is half Japanese, half Chinese and was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. At fifteen years old, Sumi moved to the U.S. by herself to attend Walnut Hill School for the Arts to further her acting and musical theater training. She continued her education at Elon University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre. Sumi is an actress, singer, dancer, and violinist who has been seen performing both on TV and on stage. Sumi's most notable stage credits include the world premiere of "Greater Clements" at Lincoln Center Theater, "Call Me Madam" at Encores! New York City Center, and Disney's "Freaky Friday" at La Jolla Playhouse.
