Michael "Doc" Harris was born as Michael Martinez in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Carmen Martinez, a Puerto Rican immigrant in March of 1969. Michael was adopted several months after his birth by Leroy "Yogi" (who passed away May 23rd, 2020) and Margaret "Peggy" Harris, both of Cadiz, Ohio, while Leroy was stationed with the Air Force at McGuire AFB, NJ, and living in Trenton, NJ. Michael's adoptive parents worked as aircraft maintenance and crew chief, and as a bank teller and bookkeeper, respectively. Michael met his first wife in college and was later divorced. They have two sons together, both grown, one married. He chose to enlist in the Army National Guard Special Forces program in 2000 and was later dismissed from the training program for a serious injury that required two surgeries on the same hip one year and eight months apart. He was, however, very fortunate to continue working alongside Special Forces personnel at Fort Bragg until late in 2005, all the while undergoing many rigorous hours of tactical and medical training. During his initial training at Fort Bragg, Michael met his present wife in 2002. They dated for just over four years, then married in December of 2006, just prior to deployment, and shortly after enlisting into the Active Duty Army. She brought two young sons from her previous marriage, and Michael raised them as his own. In 2013 they were surprised by the changes and news that Maria was pregnant with their 5th collective child, this time a daughter, and welcomed her into the world in April of 2014. They named her after Michael's biological mother, Carmen. Michael served his country honorably in various units to include 36th, 550th, and 602nd Area Support Medical Companies and HHC Company, 261st MMB, (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; 1/130th Aviation Regiment, Fort Bragg, NC; 3/4 ADAR (Airborne), 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; 149th & 55th MP Companies, South Korea; Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C., and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA; 86th and 511th Engineer Deep Sea Dive Detachments, Fort Eustis, Virginia. He spent 15 months in Southern Iraq as a medical Non-Commissioned Officer with the 36th ASMC 2006-2008, and returned home to continue serving, training, mentoring, and leading junior medics....all before being medically retired in 2016 for multiple injuries sustained during operations and training throughout his career. Upon retirement, Michael settled in San Antonio, TX, where his wife works as a Private Finance and Wealth Management Specialist for a local firm. Michael founded Red-Ops Consulting, LLC, a specialized Security and Business Development firm, and Red-Ops Technical Consulting for education and training of top performers of action film projects, with his business partner, a former Special Forces soldier, and once Michael's Cadre, Magnus Scott, who served in Special Forces and the military for 17 years. Today, Michael enjoys teaching Self Defense through his other venture, Cuervo Combatives, spending time with his daughter and wife, especially Sea World Aquatica!, playing roles and being an extra in all kinds of film and commercial ventures, is studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Business at San Antonio College and enjoys doing many of the things he did not have time for while serving in the military. Mr. Harris is also a volunteer PTSD Mentor and Facilitator for the Birdwell Foundation for PTSD's San Antonio Chapter and performs public/motivational speaking on a scheduled appointment only basis.
