Desireé Winns was born in Yokohama, Japan, lived for thirteen years in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Bonn, Germany when she was 14. She was a writing finalist for the National Youngarts Foundation for her screenplay "Last Stop", that was also produced into a film by the YoungArts Foundation. She was also a finalist in the Harlem International Film Festival's Short Screenplay Competition, the 2013 Tennessee winner for the Do the Write Thing Essay Competition, and achieved Gold Key for her writing portfolio in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in January 2018. She aspires to tell stories that encourage diversity not only with characters of color, but with story lines that allow characters of various backgrounds to become more complex and compelling cinematic figures.
