Freja Refning Hansen was born and raised in Odense, Denmark. As a young girl, Freja wrote her own stories and sometimes adapted them into comic books after her mother spotted her interest and sent her on a summer course in comic book creation. Meanwhile she starred in most of her first school's plays starting to develop an interest in film and writing, starting her first novel at age 10. At age 15 she got a role in a local, dilettante play, and her interest in acting peaked. Extra work and small roles in features and music videos filled her free time through the teen years, winning her an award at her high school for most and widest range of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) activities in the International Baccalaureate program at Nyborg Gymnasium. Ending her high school years, she traveled around Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the UK and started a video blog. Years on, she has gone more behind the scenes to write, direct, and produce several short films starting with I AM (2013), and peaking in her exchange year at University of West Florida with aLIVE (2017), Goals (2018) and Times Change (2018). Studying for her BA Hons in Criminology at Edinburgh Napier University, her main goal is to somehow better, or rather inspire, the world, thus her works tend to have a heavier message relating to social problems or climate change. Recently, she founded production company, Refining 21st Pictures, working with other creatives mainly located in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Freja strives to write and direct feature films in the near future, starting with her upcoming feature script.
