Born in São Vicente, Samira Vera-Cruz is a young Cape Verdean director and producer. Graduated in Film Studies, specializing in International Communication at the American University of Paris (France), the filmmaker has experience in audiovisual production in Cape Verde and Angola. Started Parallax Produções, her production company, launching herself on the market with her own productions. Back to Cape Verde in 2016, she made her directorial debut with her first short fiction Buska Santu, screened at various festivals and winner of the best fiction prize at the Oiá 2017 Festival (Mindelo, Cape Verde). Samira was the winner of the PALOP-TL Short Films Competition EU 25 years, representing Cape Verde, which allowed her to make her first short documentary - Hora di Bai, which premiered world-wide in Maputo, Mozambique. At the end of 2017, she premiered her first feature film, Sukuru, a thriller on schizophrenia and drug addiction, done entirely without financing.
