Souvik Gupta

After completing his MBA from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Souvik Gupta has worked both in the corporate set up and in the entertainment industry. Along with a few short films, a mini-series with Humaramovie, Souvik Gupta has also worked with OTT platforms such as VOOT and Zee5. His roles have varied from being the Writer (Story-Screenplay-Dialogues) to Creative Director and The Director / Filmmaker. In 2011, Souvik wrote and directed a short film called 'Neighbour'. The film was declared Runners Up awardee at "Re-Think India" Short film competition conducted by "Shamiana" and "Citizens for Peace". It was also the finalist at the "Advantage India" competition and was screened at the SHORTS Film Festival (Jamshedpur), Kolkata Film Festival among others. Souvik took his writing career in a new direction with a novel about complicated relationships. "An Unequal Harmony.." released in 2013 delves into the much-complicated question: "Can a person love two individuals at the same time?' In 2015, Souvik made his next short film. 'Fraternal' - produced and released by Humaramovie - is based on a dysfunctional relationship between two brothers and deals with sensitive issues such as gay rights, and child sexual abuse. In 2016, Souvik wrote and directed his most ambitious project then: a mini-series called "Ranjish" - a socio-political story about terrorism and its impact on Communal Harmony. Released in January 2016 on Humaramovie's YouTube channel, the film has got rave reviews from its audience. In 2017-18, Souvik worked with the then fledgling Zee5 and made a short film called "Mehmaan". A meditative drama thriller starring Raima Sen and Kaushik Sen, "Mehmaan" has received great reviews. In 2019, Souvik wrote three episodes and acted as the Creative Director for the anthology series "Fuh se Fantasy" released by VOOT. Souvik has also been an active Member cum Columnist for popular movie website "Madaboutmoviez.com" - actively involved in discussing, reviewing and analysing films, trends, topics and other aspects. Prior to that, he had a short stint working as Official Movie Reviewer for HT Media's website 'DesiMartini'.
