Maria was born in Athens, Greece, and is based in Toronto, Canada. She is founder of Ariadne's Red Chair Films Inc., a company dedicated to making films that highlight strong female roles and their stories. She studied theatre and has dual Sociology and Social Work degrees from York University. She has worked on television as a reporter, live host, director, and producer. She had her TV debut in 1989 as a reporter on the Greek language show "Edo Pou Ta Leme", continued on with "Conflicting Interests", a weekly one-hour live call-in current affairs talk show as host and producer. In 1999, she won the inaugural international Mass Media award from the Greek General Secretariat of Information - Communication (formerly the Ministry of Press & Mass Media) and the President of the Republic Konstantinos Stephanopoulos for her story "Educational Choices" on the TV show "Edo Kai Tora". She is executive producer and director for "Star Foodies!" and writer, director and producer of the film "Red Door and Lemon Tree."
