Steven Vargas is an actor, dancer, and choreographer whose work focuses on the intersections of media, social justice, and performance. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he received a BA double major in theatre and journalism with a minor in dance. Due to the volatile job market during the pandemic, he returned to USC to pursue an MA in Specialized Journalism (The Arts) where he is writing his thesis on dance as a tool for abolition and liberation. He is also working at Annenberg Media as one of the first members of the Equity Board, an initiative dedicated to diversifying coverage and promoting inclusive reporting. His artistic practice combines his skills in reporting with dance, to tell stories he's been reporting on through movement. In theatre, he has worked with organizations like USC Arts in Action, Sojourn Theatre Company of Chicago, Black Lives Matter LA, and Reform LA Jails Coalition. He participated in the 2018 Artist As Citizen Conference with Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) at the Juilliard School and studied at Shakespeare's Globe in London with a Fulbright Summer Institute Scholarship. Steven utilizes skills and experiences on and off stage to communicate poignant stories through theatre and dance.
