I didn't know these X-MEN could be so cool!

Spoilers

I have been a big fan of the MCU since its beginnings and I faithfully follow each installment, even though lately some series like Echo or Secret Invasion have not helped me want to watch absolutely everything, so upon hearing the return of the legendary X-Men animated series from the 90s, I started watching it. The series definitely has its fame very well achieved, in its 5 seasons they included a lot of characters and arcs from the comics in a very precise way, finally allowing me to see a fairly faithful adaptation of Dark Phoenix.

And I think that if there is one aspect where the series particularly shines above the live action adaptations, it is in its representation of Cyclops. He is the great leader of the team on the battlefield, but in the movies he is just another member or the weakest part of the love triangle he has with Jean and Logan. The series made me respect him and finally support his couple with Jean, something essential for the drama of the latter's death and resurrection.

Oh, the drama!

But if there is something that Cyclops still couldn't achieve, it was that his power interested me, simply among mutants who can turn their skin to metal or absorb powers, shooting x-rays through the eyes feels like seeing Hawkeye using arrows surrounded by superhumans. Apparently the writers of X-Men 97 noticed that his powers looked boring in the original series, and decided to change it from the very first episode.

"To Me, My X-Men", the beginning of this revival of the series, began by facing Scott Summers with a group of "Friends of Humanity", with a choreography that completely dazzled me. The use of his rays to push things, slide and hit bad guys formed a battle choreography that we had never seen in the 90's. But what really left me speechless came a few minutes later, when after an attack by Sentinel that threw him off the Blackbird (the team's ship), Ciclope began very confidently to give commands to the rest of the group, and then use his power pointing at the floor at maximum power to reduce his fall speed and land in the most epic way possible.

Simply incredible

And not content with claiming Cyclops' powers, they also did it with Morph!. In his brief appearances in the original series, he uses his powers mostly to infiltrate places or generate discord between characters, but now he was allowed to show his full potential, such as changing his appearance to that of The Blob so that Wolverine can jump on him, or to that of Quicksilver to quickly attack an enemy.

Because if there is one thing that the new series did well, in addition to maintaining the quality of the stories (and perhaps even improving it), it was showing the potential of all the characters. In addition to Cyclops and Morph, we also saw, for example, Nightcrawler using his iconic swords with which he makes the most of his teleportation powers or Magneto generating a global EMP. Even simple displays of powers felt more powerful than before, like seeing Storm's summoned lightning strike the sand and turn it into glass (proving that they aren't simple electrical discharges as they can sometimes seem), or Rogue using her abilities to learn to be a midwife

I hope that the next season maintains this level in its action scenes, and shows us more incredible feats of the X-Men, like seeing Rogue absorbing the powers of several members at the same time or Iceman creating an army of ice.
