Sam Burkett was born Samuel Myron Burkett on May 15, 1956, at Roy H. Laird Hospital in Kilgore, Texas to Sammy Burkett, an oilfield construction superintendent, and Alice Irene Cargill Burkett, a former school teacher and telephone operator. As a young boy, Sam's parents called him by his middle name, Myron, which many of his friends made fun of. After seeing a rerun of "Happy Days" in which Fonzie ridiculed a character named Myron. At that point he started going by Sam. I never understood why my parents insisted on calling Myron. My dad's name was Sam, my great grandfather's name was Sam. It made perfect sense for me to carry on their name. I sure get into a lot less fights now. A classically-trained actor and comedian, Sam studied drama at Margo Manning Studios in Dallas, appearing in over 30 local stage productions around North and East Texas, including "The Odd Couple, "The Sound of Music," "Twelve Angry Men" and "It's A Wonderful Life." In 1990 he began performing stand-up comedy in local comedy clubs around the Dallas/Fort Worth Area as well as writing for national headliners coming through Texas. He is now writing, directing and producing the multi-camera sitcoms "Branson the Sitcom," "Edsel's Place" and "Just Fix It" set for production in 2019 and 2020. His company, Sam Burkett Entertainment LLC is based in Los Angeles.
