Cody Franchetti was born in Rome on November 22, 1974. His great-great-grandfather, Baron Raimondo Franchetti, married Maria Louise Rothschild, an heir to the Rothschild dynasty. His grandfather, Baron Mario Franchetti, married the textile heiress Anne Milliken. Franchetti's father, Giorgio Andrea, is a winemaker and patron of the arts; Franchetti's mother is Italian theater and cinema actress Angelica Ippolito. After 2 years in Paris as a private music student in 1992, Cody Franchetti moved to New York City in 1994 to study music at Mannes College of Music in New York, where he received a BA in 2000. In 2003 and 2006 he starred in Jamie Johnson's documentaries Born Rich and The One Percent, in which he talked about life as a rich heir. In 2008 he enrolled at Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and received an MA in 2013. Since then his work has been mostly academic with publications in various scholarly journals; he has also written poems that have been set to music by composer Michael Linton as Lieder for voice and piano that were performed in 2 concerts at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall in 2014 and 2019 respectively.
