Jesse Lacey is lead singer in Christian Pop Punk band, Brand New. Originally starting his career with the band Taking Back Sunday but after one EP also called Taking Back Sunday, he left and joined Vinnie Accardi, Brian Lane, Garrett Tierney and the now ex-member Derrick Sherman in forming Brand New in 2000. By 2001, they created their first album Your Favorite Weapon including tracks such as Logan To Goverment Center, Mixtape, Failure By Design, Socco Amaretto Lime and The No Seatbelt Song. This was produced by the bands friend Mike Sapone. The band then toured for between a year and a half to two years in which time they wrote their second album- Deja Entendu. The title directly translates to "already heard" and was completely written by lead singer Lacey. Lacey explained the albums title in an interview, "No matter who you are or what your band is about, you can't put a record out without people saying it's derivative of something else. So by saying the record's already been heard, it's kind of like saying, 'Yeah, you're right. We're doing something that's already been done before.'". The album was released in June 2003 by Razor & Tie/Triple Crown Records. Within seven weeks, it surpassed the success of its predecessor Our Favorite Weapon by selling 51,000 copies but it wasn't until May 2007, it was certified gold for selling 500,000 copies. The album contains songs such as Sic Transit Gloria.... Glory Fades, The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows, Jaws Theme Swimming, The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot, Guerncia and Okay I Believe You But Tommy Gun Dont (the first two of the list became the bands first two music videos). The album was considered more heavy rock than the first and involved many television references to films such as 1998's Rushmore, 2001's Donnie Darko and 1975's Jaws. The album was rated 9.7/10 by IGN Between 2005-08, they worked on creating their third album The God and Devil Are Raging Inside Of Me. While writing this album, it became clear that Lacey and the band struggled with touring life style. He said in an interview, "I'm getting depressed with all of the anxiety about the album and they say I write my best stuff when I'm in that state.". This album also allowed fans to see Lacey's Christian side. Their single Jesus Christ involved lyrics such as "Well, Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die.... And at the gates, does Thomas ask to see my hands?". This track was performed live on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Late Show with David Letterman During this period, they began having problems with their record label. In January 2006, nine demos from The God and Devil were leaked without the bands consent. By March 2008, they became so tired of their label, they set up their own entitled Procrastinate! Music Traitors. With this label, they released their last album as a 2-LP white vinyl record and a Kevin Devine album called Put Your Ghost to Rest. During Glastonbury 2009, Brand New performed two songs "Bride" and "Gasoline" and announced the release of another album- Daisy. It was originally planned to be called "And One Head Can Never Die (to be typeset and one head can never die) " and debuted number six on the Billboard 2000 by selling 46,000 records. Their final record is not yet released but the band stated that after this final album, they will retire in 2018. Since then, they released three new songs; mene, Sealed To Me and Nightmare. They also reworked and released 2006's Leaked Demons under the name 3 Demos Reworked. During the same summer, new shirt designs were revealed by the band through social media, two of which state "2000-2018". Lacey commented "What's left should be a strange demise, but hopefully one as loud and as fun as the rest of our time together has been. All are invited. Please send flowers.".
