Glenn William Grainger wrote the play "Manuel," based on the life of Richard Manuel, keyboardist and vocalist with the Canadian iconic rock group The Band. Grainger used first hand accounts of Richard Manuel's last remaining brother Al as the main subject matter for the play. The play was first performed in London, Ontario at the Paul Davenport Theatre on campus at Western University with a short seven show run from April 26-May 1, 2016 and was well received by audiences. Along with the Manuel family, in 2013 Grainger started the Richard G. Manuel Music Award which is a scholarship that goes annually to a well deserving performance student at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. Grainger has developed another play called "Sound Check," based on first hand accounts of one of rock'n roll's most valued and accomplished musicians who plays with the world's biggest bands. Grainger owns his own music production company which presents an annual concert each spring in London, Ontario in support of the Richard G. Manuel Music Award.
