Steve Bristow was born in Melbourne, Australia. His birth name is Stephen Bristow. His parents were Albert and Leonie Bristow. Bristow grew up in suburban Melbourne, completing his secondary education at Seaford-Carrum High School. Bristow studied Media Production at Victoria College, graduating in 1984. After graduation Bristow worked as a computer animator at Sonicvision in South Melbourne, creating TV commercials and broadcast graphics. In 1990 he moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to work for broadcaster TV3, as head of the animation department of subsidiary Animated and Post Production Techniques (APT). In 1994 he left TV3 to co-found Malaysian animation studio Fat Lizard. Fat Lizard created TV commercials and broadcast graphics for clients across South East Asia. In 2000 Bristow partnered with Malaysian production company Vision New Media to setup Persistence Of Vision (POV), a 60 seat CG animation service studio, delivering episodic TV for international clients. From 2000 to 2004 Bristow was Managing Director of Fat Lizard and Executive Director of POV. During that period he directed numerous animated TV commercials for clients across South East Asia, co-executive produced animated TV series Fish Tales (39 episodes) and Bola Cyber (13 episodes) for Malaysian broadcaster RTM and was visual effects supervisor of over 60 shots for Malaysian feature film Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam. In 2004 Bristow left the Vision New Media group to work as an independent animation producer/director under new company Creative License. He was appointed as a director on Al Jazeera (Qatar)/MDEC (Malaysia) co-production, Saladin - working on the project for over 2 years from 2006 to 2009. After 20 years in Malaysia Bristow returned to Melbourne in 2010 with his wife and children and worked as an independent animation producer and director. He was appointed as a director on animated TV series Sherazade The Untold Stories, an Australian/German/Indian co-production, from 2015 to 2017, during which he spend four months in India as an overseas animation supervisor.
