Emily Elizabeth Thomas is an award winning writer/director based in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in Austin, TX and proudly maintains a strong presence in the Texas film community. A true cowgirl at heart, Emily brings authentic Southern grit to every project. Emily is a classically trained writer and filmmaker. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in screenwriting, critical theory, and cinema studies, and a Master of Arts from New York University in TV Writing, and gender studies. She learned the ropes of independent movie making in the indie film world. She began writing, directing and producing her own films from a young age. Her work has been award winning at festivals such as The Oslo Independent Film Festival, The Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival, and The Alabama George Lindsay Film Festival. She has been featured by Milk Studios, Free The Bid, Film Threat, Director's Notes, Black Book, Ad Age, Shots, Purple Magazine, and more. At the foundation of her directorial practice is the true grit of independent movie making, color and design, and unyielding commitment to the craft and art of storytelling. Emily's goal as a director is to push the edges, make you feel, and disrupt the systems of power which seek to keep women and minorities down.
