Chris presented INSIDE OUT in the North East and Cumbria for its entire 18 year run - the longest serving presenter of all the regional editions of the BBC's award winning Current Affairs show. He was also named the Royal Television Society's "Presenter of the Year" five times. He is known as an investigative journalist and producer/director of documentaries and factual programmes - mostly for the BBC. His career began in Radio - As a trainee sports and news journalist with Mercia Sound (Coventry) 1980-84 before formally training as a post-grad at the Cardiff School of Journalism (1984/5). He then took his first professional role at Swansea Sound before moving back to his native North East to join as a producer at BBC Radio Newcastle. After presenting twice daily news shows he moved to TV, First at BBC East Midlands and Midlands today before once more returning to Newcastle as a reporter on Look North. Eventually he becomes the co-presenter of the evening news before going the brand new current affairs programme Inside Out as both presenter and producer. Alongside that role he presented and produced one-off documentaries both regional and network, such as Sense of Place, Heritage at Risk, Nature of Britain, Wild Weather, Watchdog Daily, World War I at Home, Pubs, Ponds & Power , Villages by the Sea. Chris left the BBC in October 2020 and is now freelance.
