Peter S. Petralia

Peter Petralia is a writer, director, and producer obsessed with telling stories about what it means to be human now. He was born in Florida, but don't hold that against him. When he was younger he thought he wanted to be an actor. He performed in musicals and plays in community theater in Central Florida, smoking clove cigarettes on the beach at night with his alternative friends. Eventually he thought he hit it big when he landed a small part in a b-film called Kiss of the Serpent. He's never seen that film. Later, he went to NYU for experimental theater. He worked as a caterer and made a lot of mistakes. He dropped out to join the circus in San Francisco where he started to find his own artistic voice. He worked as an assistant editor at an post production house, did extensive work in technical theater, and then founded Proto-type Theater. Eventually, he started to figure things out a bit, realizing he was more of a writer/director/producer than an actor. No one is sad that he isn't on the stage anymore. He moved back to NY and pursued a dual path career of leading Proto-type, collaborating with other artists, and producing video games, websites, and advertising. He received an MA and PhD in theater studies from Lancaster University. With Proto-type he wrote, directed, and produced dozens of experimental works of performance that were presented on four continents. His writing has been published in Performance Research, Contemporary Theater Review, and in three collections including Intermediality in Performance and the Best Plays of 2001. He lives on Vancouver Island with his husband Brian and dog Miles Davis, and leads a marketing consulting firm called Modern Craft that works with mission driven organizations. He has written the pilot for a scripted dark comedy for TV and is writing a feature film and a stage play.
