The Classic Cinema - Tribute

The classic cinema is the most important era of all ¿Why? ¿Due to the legends there? ¿Brilliant Directors? ¿Unforgettable stories? Yes, yes and yes.

Since Chaplin, Greta Garbo, and Clark Gable till Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Genius like Marlon Brandon and Katherine Hepburn (a great surname as we see), all them gave us a gift, a story: Their movies. The words fall short front these legends and we all are grateful with their performances, sensibility and talent on the cinema. Let´s be honest, the movies wouldn´t be the same without them. We can afford ourselves to talk about the great directors (maybe the next one) but now we must give tribute to the real faces of the seventh art, the stars.

First at all we must to thank to Stanislavski and his “method” based in the introspection and hard work where the actor/actress must dive into the real motivations of the character, like this the result it will be more credible and subtle. He has had a hug influence in the evolution of the actuation, such that we couldn´t imagine the whole potential of these legends without his work.

There are not doubts that these stars set the base of the how Hollywood should look like and inspired the next generations with their lives, mostly inside the industry but in other branches of the art too, which is awesome. Now a little tribute for some legends we love:

Garbo: For her eternal beauty, she was the first one that acted with her eyes

Chaplin; Because he was the real genius of the century

Gable and Wayne; For being “The men of the century” alongside to Bogart and his intelligence

Katherine and Audrey Hepburn; The first one for her geniality and the second for her sensibility

Marlon Brando; For his charisma and natural talent

Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe; They made that whole generation fell in love with them, the “erotic myth” was created for them

James Dean and Monty Clift; For being the fallen angels of their generation, they showed that the hell is inside of us

James Steward and Gregory Peck; For being the example of professionalism and humanity within such ruthless industry

Grace Kelly; The perfect image of elegancy

Ingrid Bergman; For her unique style and powerful performances

Cary Grant and Paul Newman: Because they shaped the “beau prototype” in Hollywood

Jack Lemmon; For being the only one that came close to us with his characters

Sidney Poitier; Because he showed us that the nothing is for free, everything has a price.

A special mention to: Liv Ulman, Max von Sydow, Bibi Anderson, Ingrid Tulin, Gunnard Björnstrand, Tatsuya Nakadai, Toshiro Mifune, Setsuko Hara and Michiko Kyo. Cornerstones in Europe and Asia.

The list it would be infinite, but these are the actors/actress that I love and admire most. The art demands sacrifice, talent and time. And this last one is the most important thing, because the time has turned their lives and work into a myth. The real aspiration of every artwork is being a myth, in the case of the actuation is being an icon. These legends are both, the achievement is absolute.
