The Making of The Powder of Death (1987)

A movie about the making of a non-existent documentary about an imaginary film. The plot of the imaginary movie, "The Powder of Death", involves a wild and crazy ski weekend that ends in tragedy when five of the partiers are killed by a control-crew-triggered avalanche. The rest of the film trails the sole surviving skier, a grief-stricken man who tracks down the members of the avalanche crew and blows them away one by one. But that's not what this movie is about. This is where "The Making of..." part of the title comes in. The audience is taken on a madcap tour behind the movie's scenes, into the sordid bowels of exploitation filmmaking. The wacky cast of characters responsible for The Powder of Death lead us on a comic journey through the trials and tribulations of filmmaking. We're privy to temperamental outbursts, budget dilemmas, creative disputes and all those tender moments that make the filming of exploitation movies a truly harrowing experience.
