Never Truly Goodbye (2021)

Nate, a freshman in college, is playing basketball when he receives a call from Nicky, the younger brother of Nate's childhood best friend, Ethan. He receives the devastating news that Ethan has passed away. In the days leading up to the funeral, Nate attempts to fill the "older brother" role that Nicky has lost, but repeatedly fails to get through to a withdrawn and grieving Nicky. After realizing that he must confront his own grief before he can comfort Nicky, Nate invites Nicky to play basketball with him, where they kindle a brotherly bond with one another founded upon their mutual care for Ethan and each other.
