A documentary about what is possibly the last remaining unsettled Veterans Affairs issue from WWII: The Merchant Mariners, promised benefits like those of the other branches by Pres. Roosevelt, were cruelly cut out of the GI Bill, in part due to Red-baiting of their union. Despite gaining partial Veterans status in the 1980s, they have still never been fully recognized or compensated for their WWII heroism -- the Merchant Marine took the most casualties of any branch. In 2017 and 2018, a group of them -- all in the 80s and 90s -- went to Washington, DC, to "Storm the Hill" on behalf of two bills that help redress this injustice, HR 154 and S2127, which are descendants of legislation that first began moving through Congress in 2003.
