Sam, a formerly homeless Vietnam vet with PTSD currently resides 9in an SRO hotel in San Francisco;s Tenderloin neighborhood. He often walks to a nearby Park to escape the oppressive gloom of the TV room at the hotel. One day, the keening sound of a skate border mingled with the rumble of a group of motorcyclists on a nearby street triggers Sam;s PTSD. And he has a flashback to a bombing raid he ordered in Vietnam on a pristine village located over a Viet Cong command and control Bunker. We see thru Sam;s eyes the dark gray shapes of the bombers,. Watdch the bombs fall out of the Bombay doors and explode on the earth below. In the middle of the PTSD attack, Velez a Friend of Sam, reaches out to shake him and asks if he is OK. Velez encourages Sam to visit an outreach center to get help with his nightmares and Sam insists that they can not help and that they do not understand. In the middle of this conversation, we hear the sweet voice of a young girl saying, "Who are you talking to Mister?". Sam looks at her confused and then fumbles into his pocket to pull out a name tape and a faded photograph. He points to one person in the picture and says "Velez, my friend". The young girl, Mia, asks "Where is he". Sam points to the sky And Mia says, "You got to cheer up, Mister." And then she adds, "What is your name, mister?" "Sam", he says. Mia says, "{ Next time, I will bring you a flower. Flowers always cheer me up." Then she says with a smile, "Good by Sam". As Mia and her mother walk away, Mia asks "Mommy, why is that man so sad/" Her mother replies "He was in a war and lost good friends...like your mother in Vietnam." Sam hearing this slowly breaks out into a smile and gets up and walks away.
