Delirium (2023)

Ingi, a young father laden with debt, he's doing everything he can to keep his family afloat. He desperately searches for work, which due to his checkered past seems almost impossible. To make ends meet they rent out an apartment for tourists on the side. After an unsuccessful job interview he gets a phone call from his wife telling him that they're getting complaints about a smell emanating from their Airbnb. Frustrated, he goes to investigate. Entering the apartment he's immediately hit by a pungent smell, something is not quite right. All the lights in the apartment don't work, the cutlery has been hidden away and old photographs and various notes have been put on display. He opens the bathroom to find the badly decomposed corpse of his guest, Ethan Reid. After the police investigation he's forced to hire a professional cleaner to take care of the mess. The cleaner agrees to do it for a discount if Ingi agrees to throw out the man's belongings which have been placed in trash bags. Low on cash and out of options Ingi agrees. He takes the trash bags to the rubbish facility. While there one of the bags tears and from it tumbles a heavy antique metal box. Curious, he takes it back home with him. In his study he forces the box open. Inside he finds medieval coins, WWII memorabilia, some photos and a tape recorder. Listening to it he hears the voice of Ethan Reid who recounts the misery of the curse that follows the box has brought him and his family. Initially Ingi dismisses it as ramblings of a broken mind. But gradually Ingi starts experiencing similar things as described by Ethan; hearing voices, hallucinations, insomnia, losing his sense of time, and seemingly tormented by a being in the shadows.
