Born and raised outside of Oxford, Mississippi. Lived in Chicago, Illinois during World War II and attended Ray Elementary in Hyde Park. Attended University High School on campus of Ole Miss and was raised on a 106 acre farm that bordered the Yocona River - the Yoknapatawpha River of William Faulkner's writing. Farm chores were typical; milked cows, fed hogs, hoed cotton and picked okra every other day. Never made love in the Hayloft. Migrated to Washington, DC in 1957 and began a career with The Montgomery County Police, Rockville, Maryland, in 1961 and retired in 1986 at the rank of Captain. Most assignments were uniform - all assignments were enjoyable. As Captain was in charge of Special Operations - SWAT-K9. Last assignment was Emergency Operations Center (911). Worked in private industry in security or loss prevention for 14 years. Began acting in 1995 at The Maryland Academy of Dramatic Arts operated by the late Ralph Tabakin who played the original coroner, Dr Scheiner, on Homicide-Life on the Street - (ABC) Ralph was excellent with monologue preparation training and as a result landed jobs with Opryland Productions in Nashville, Tennessee; Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave; Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina and Olney Theatre, just up the road in Olney Maryland. A Big Gig for him. Continue to audition for commercials and Industrial Film and an occasional stage play. Resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with wife, Patrica. Brother of John T. Black, retired banker and author, Greenville, MS and Richard M. Black, former police captain and retired Health Care Administrator; operates his investigation business in Oxford, MS.
