Tatyana Mukhina lived in an orphanage, and at the age of one year she was taken in by foster parents. After graduating from seven classes of the school, she entered a welding college. Upon completion, she worked at a factory in Mytishchi, Moscow Oblast, Soviet Union (now Russia). In 1940 she entered the English language department of the Moscow Pedagogical Institute. She taught in foreign language courses. Since the spring of 1946 she taught at the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies, then at the Department of English at MGIMO.
