Born in New York, Rebecca Kirkland started her career in the entertainment industry through background extra work,studying at the Old Globe in San Diego. She completed an film internship with the San Diego Film Commission. While in New York working in the wardrobe department for the Apollo Theatre, the call came for an opportunity to work with Denzel Washington as Production Secretary for his directorial debut, Antwone Fisher (2002). She is now working as a independent producer of film, theatre and special events. She produced two one act comedies, 'Fitting Rooms' and 'Soccer Moms' for the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood in 2002. In January 2004 she produced the critically acclaimed play 'Stage Directions' for the Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA Project. The play would go on to house two more productions at the Odyssey Theatre. She earned a nomination for Best Local Producer for Stage Directions from the 2004 NAACP Awards. The play also won the 2005 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre. In 2005 she also produced the stage reading of Jack of Hearts at the Odyssey Theatre. In 2007 she produced the Los Angeles premiere of Sven Swenson's award winning Australian play Beautiful Souls at the Hudson Theatre on Theatre Row in Hollywood. She works as production coordinator for the annual charity event Hot in Hollywood. Now in its third year, the event donates all proceeds to the Aids Healthcare Foundation.
