Creative from a young age, Shanghai born Zhang has always been seen playing around with a camera. Following his passion for the moving image, he has been educated in art, music, writing, and of course, film. His first short film 'Distance', which he wrote, directed, produced, as well as starred in, was made when he was only 17 years of age, and earned him recognition and awards from as far as Australia to China, including the Shanghai International Film Festival. He then went on to complete a series of acclaimed omnibus of short films, 'The Leaf Trilogy', all before the age of 19. The unique visual styles Zhang has incorporated into his productions have earned him a reputation as a major young talent in the Asian cinema world. Now, still only 22 years of age, he splits his time between Australia and Asia, where he frequently works with young and established artists from all over the globe, creating both stylish, and challengingly diverse commercial work. Zhang has recently completed his first feature length film, 'Lovers', shot on location in Shanghai, China. The film stars internationally renowned models James Vegter and Cherie Leena, and boasts Zhang's moody, stylized cinematography. Zhang founded his production company, 'The Style Embassy' in 2005. Along with producing partner 'Bebop Productions', its aim is to create a production house focused on the integration of young talent from Asia to create high quality pieces of visual work designed to be expressive to a global audience.
